Shamballa is the 1993 collaboration from jazz drummer William Hooker, Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), and composer Elliott Sharp. The release features Hooker performing duets with each musician. Hooker and Moores performance is littered with bursts of feedback and distortion, while the collaboration with Sharp is characterized by a more electronic sound, building a sense of technology. The pieces will be released on vinyl for the first time as a double LP for Record Store Day 2023, limited to 1,500 copies.

There's something intangible about Celeste, the Soundcarriers second album, originally released in 2010. It has a light, lucid quality, almost like driving exhausted through a strange city at night. Freeflowing yet tethered, dreamy yet attacking, the band continue the fight to reconcile competing impulses. Various threads just about keep the shimmering tapestry from tearing. Haunting folk melodies underpinned by rhythmic static and the physicality of the totally analogue recording and mixing, baroque keyboard counterpoints and sweeping arrangements. The opener Last Broadcast seems to encapsulate this but it's almost as if the album gets the angst out of its system with this track and is free to explore the quieter, less crowded back streets. After the smoke of Last Broadcast has cleared, the twisting road takes in the soft introspection of Hideaway and Morning Haze, both tracks morphing into heavy psyche grooves or the eastern tinged psyche funk of Signals and Rise And Fall. Or takes another turn with the tightly arranged opening segment of Long Highway. Somehow it still manages to fit in 60s pop gems like There Only Once.
An album to really lose yourself in, yet more concise than the sprawling Harmonium and more relaxed and freeflowing than the nervy rush of Entropicalia, Celeste could be arguably their most indispensable album and not to damn it with faint praise, their most listenable.
Originally released in 2010 to critical acclaim and quickly achieving cult-status especially with a limited 1000 limited vinyl pressing, The Soundcarriers Celeste has never been repressed until now. This repress on black vinyl will be exclusive to RSD.

These are Sonny Stitt's last ever live recordings, on November 11, 1981, from Bubba's Jazz Restaurant, whose stage had been the place of so many historical jazz recordings. Stitt performs here alongside fellow tenor Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis and trumpeter Harry "Sweets" Edison, backed by the unrelenting drums and bass propulsion of Duffy Jackson and Donn Mast. This concert recording was first issued on vinyl in 1983, and has not been reissued since. This new press (on heavyweight colour vinyl) comes 40 years later as an homage to the late Sonny Stitt who died soon after the recordings, in 1982.

Harry Whitaker is a piano player, producer and arranger who at the age of 26 recorded Black Renaissance "Body, Mind, and Spirit," a holy grail amongst collectors of soul-jazz and rare groove, and an album so rare it's virtually a myth to many.
Made up of two long tracks that periodically build and release for forty minutes over two sides of an LP it's an improvised masterpiece combining Afrocentric spiritual soul, jazz, poetry, amazing solos, a tasty bass line or two and more than a fair share of funky beats. It's also one of the earliest jazz albums to feature rapping. "I called the project Black Renaissance because that is what I wanted to see happen - especially in music. I describe it as Dixieland circa 1976 - by the end of the songs everyone is playing together."
Given its rarity, when asked if he was surprised that people knew about the album Whitaker jokes "I've told enough people about it over the years! Now they can actually hear it. It was a record before it's time. It's not a commercial release - I think of it as classical. You can call it jazz, but it's free, it's got African roots, it's for people who people who dig that sound."
Harry Whitaker has enjoyed a successful career as a producer, arranger and composer, cutting his teeth on the best of the Roy Ayers Ubiquity releases and making a living working closely with Roberta Flack - as her musical director, even playing on her big Eugene McDaniels' written hit "I Feel Like Makin' Love." Black Renaissance "Body, Mind, and Spirit," was his first attempt at a project where he wrote and composed the music and played keys on both tracks.
Originally released in 1977 and highly considered as one of the grail titles in the Spiritual Jazz, Jazz-Funk canon. Reissued by Luv N'Haight in 2002 with a limited pressing. This repress on black vinyl will be exclusive to RSD.

Ultramagnetic MCs are back.
Known for their abstract and futuristic style, Kool Keith and Ced Gee pioneered the New York Hip-Hop sound in the 80s alongside contemporaries such as KRS One and LL Cool J, before disbanding in the mid 1990s. Bolstering a long, genre-spanning solo career Kool Keith cemented his legacy in the Hip-Hop, Punk and Electronic music circles with thematic albums under aliases such as Dr. Octagon, Dr. Dooom and Black Elvis, while Ced Gee stayed mostly behind the scenes providing production work for iconic artists including The Prodigy and Lee "Scratch" Perry. Backing the legendary duo is Nashville-based oddball band THETAN, who provided the entire instrumentation for the recent Kool Keith collaborative album 'Space Goretex'.
This 12 single offers up two brand new tracks of spaced out funky hip hop. The B-side is emblazoned with an etching of the Ultramagnetic MCs logo, engraved by none other than Dan Emery at Black Matter Mastering.

The cinematic concert event Digital Ghost showcases the incredible musicianship and vocal ability of Underoath. This live experience takes the fan track-by-track through the entire Voyeurist album and provides an emotional journey that has so uniquely defined the band over their incredible career. The album concept came out of the larger idea that everything is a manipulationfrom the news to social media to how you present yourself, even to the people closest to you. Everything is part truth and part fiction. We wanted to strip Underoath back down to exclusively truth and cut out all distractions and made the record on our own along with our engineer JJ Revel. The result is Voyeurist. Pressed on Sangria-colored vinyl for Record Store Day 2023.

For the fourth instalment of our much-loved Brazil 45 Boxset series, we have the privilege of presenting a selection from true hip-hop royalty, Mike D of Beastie Boys. The boxset brief is simple, a curated selection of your most beloved tracks from Brazils rich musical tapestry.
Mike didnt disappoint, digging deep to unearth incredible funky psych rock, dreamy MPB and experimental nuggets. In a reflection of his most famed musical output of hip-hop and hardcore punk; it's no surprise he has cherry-picked from the experimental and leftfield side of what Brazil has to offer.
Things kick off on the first 45 with a curveball. An obscure and mysterious promotional only 7" track by Ins Soares recorded for Toyota cars and originally released in Portugal. This is paired with Nicholas Mariano's solitary 7" single 'Dita Cuja, an ultra-raw, distorted, garage rock rough diamond. Up next, we have two leftfield offerings from the visionary composer / percussionist / instrument inventor, Pedro Santos, alongside guitarist Sebastio Tapajs. These are followed by two slices of genius taken off Hareton Salvanini's sought-after Hareton + Meta EP from 1971. Circling back to the psychedelic rock vibe, we have both sides of a supremely rare Modulo 1000 7" compacto originally released on Odeon Records in 1970. Mikes love for the dreamy 70s MPB / Clube Da Esquina-esque lush sound is represented by two selections from the impeccable Erasmo Carlos.
Having Mike involved, we knew this project was going to be special. He has delivered a wondrous boxset that has his identity stamped and forged in the selection.
