The hugely popular BBC drama series (Netflix outside the UK) A Suitable Boy is an epic tale of life and love based on the classic novel of the same name by Vikram Seth set in vibrant 1950s India. The score is composed by Alex Heffes and Anoushka Shankar. Golden Globe nominated composer Alex Heffes has over 60 film and TV scores to his name, including One Day In September, The Last King Of Scotland and BAFTA-winning Touching The Void. Anoushka Shankar is a singular, genre-defying figure within the classical and contemporary, acoustic and electronic world music scenes as a sitarist, composer and producer. Her dynamic and spiritual musicality has garnered several prestigious accolades, including six Grammyr Award nominations. Says Alex of his work with series director Mira Nair, "music flows throughout Vikram Seth's book so we discussed very early on how to tie the original score into the very authentic music world of India that had been captured on screen and how to create a musical language for the score that weaves between the world of Classical Indian music and the world of film music... careful consideration was given to how to integrate orchestra into the Indian musical world, often having to learn to follow the phrasing and bending of the sitar.
