The Color Before the Sun is Coheed and Cambria's eighth full-length, and their first to stand outside the conceptual realm of the Amory Wars saga explored on all their previous albums. But that's not the only curve ball. It was cut with the band playing and singing live from the floor of a Nashville studio with producer Jay Joyce. Minimal overdubs were added later. Bassist/vocalist Claudio Sanchez penned ten uncharacteristically heart-on-sleeve personal songs based on his "raw emotions." He orchestrated them for Coheed in bright, punky pop, hooky emocore, and Coheed's trademark brand of spacy, post-hardcore, prog metal.
